GUT -  In simple terms, a Grand Unified Theory of Everything would be one that gives a common ground to all the basic elements of the universe, or actually shows that they are all aspects of the same fundamental thing.  Currently, in general terms, these elements are hypercharge, electroweak force, quantum chromodynamics, and gravity, and assuming there are no other basic elements yet to be discovered.  The basic idea is to locate a condition, or state of extremely high energy, at which all the elements become the same thing.  Again, this is not exactly correct but just a general way of explaining what scientists mean when referring to the GUT (Grand Unified Field Theory) and how this relates back to the theoretical idea that the entire universe was once all in the same place at the same time and made of the same single elemental stuff.   (For the correct scientific terms and explanation, just key word in Grand Unified Theory of Everything)
Reducing everything down to the basic element(s) is part of examining the evolution of the universe, our galaxy, the Sun, Earth, the environment, and of course, us.  Where the elements of "spirit" and "soul" come in, well you'd have to ask someone religious and there is no one home like that here, but it is a controversial element of science.  What is everything made up of?  Everything including our hopes and dreams and the very thoughts you are having reading this paragraph just now.  Is that material stuff?  What's it made of?  Where does it come from?  There are plenty of books on this topic, electrical patterns in neurons and the formation of thoughts, etc., but I prefer not to think of my dreams as mechanical electromagnetic patterns within massive collections of nerve cells, but then again, that's probably what I'm doing right now.  And this is probably what is doing the work on that Grand Unified Theory of Everything as well.
   Hmmmm, it's quite perplexing.
I'll finish this small essay with the thought that in the human endeavour to better understand ourselves, our world, and our universe, the best thing we've come up with so far is the scientific method of investigation, experimentation, theory and hypothesis, and observation...or is it?   It's all open for future improvement is what I'm getting at here, and the future can be very exciting if we let it be.

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations
(A Vulcan axiom from Star Trek)

The evolution of knowledge will come from an increased diversity and creativity of different minds working on different angles and seeing the problems and solutions in new ways, not from a pinching down of points of view only working toward the final details of the one accepted, and most wrong, theory.  When children grow up being taught that The Big Bang Theory actually relates to the nature of the large scale structure of the Universe, does this not skew their thinking and block other lines of thinking that might come?  What else might a child born on the other side of the world have come up with if not for this conscious or subconscious dogma and illusion?
The big answers to the big questions are all possible, just not in the way current popular thinking believes it will.  It is for future generations freed from the tyranny of the genesis atom and universe popping out of nothing theories to find out.
One of the main goals of this site is to foster this new blank slate, to help erase generations of error and wishful thinking and mono directional ideas.  It's time to use the largest computer ever concieved or ever actually possible on the face of the Earth...the creative power of free thinking human beings all over the world in every language and in every mode of thinking and every point of view.  This cannot be done by forcing a prescibed starting point down their throats.  It can be done with a more open and free creative process.  This begins with the truth...that we do not know.  This is where the Grand Unified Theory of Everything will come from, not a single laboratory filled with scientists alone, and not along a single line of questioning.
But first, it all begins with the big beautiful grand mystery.
   And then?

Grand Unified Theory of Everything (1999)

The great pervasive essence of the cosmos may be the same everywhere, except for Earth. Here, it is fragmented and categorized into myriad personal forms and beliefs with a wild variety of detail and conditions suited miraculously to the personal needs and fears of the individuals devising them, and there are nearly as many particular versions as there are believers in such.  This is because human beings cannot perceive the self as part of nature with the structures and levels of mind working as layers within a single system integral in consciousness.  There seems to be something doing the thinking about doing the thinking and then again something watching one observe all of that as well.  It is called being human or human being.  It is part of individual and group systems and it is all part of the same Earth in the same Solar System in a common Galaxy, etc.

Different brains may work differently, having had different experiences and having grown up in different schools of thought, or having learned different fears and delights.  Some people may more easily see humans place in and of nature, and it may seem more pleasant a prospect to view it all as a great mystery unfolding.  It may be a choice, and it may not.  We are very complex beings, and inside ourselves is the biggest mystery we have to deal with, and it may be impossible for us to see ourselves seeing it, especially if our thinking does not really allow it.
The Grand Unifed Theory of Everything must relate to who is doing the looking, figuring, interpretation, sensor readings, etc., etc., and one should not overlook the central theme to all theory in that it is all human endeavor subject to human error, fancy, wishful thinking, and of course related to our dreams and beliefs.
It is part of our nature to "know" things however contrived or outlandish the solution to a problem might be, including having a universe pop out of nothing because that theory seems to fit the desired model, etc.  If the truth is that things are actually unknown, from the smallest particle or wave to the largest astronomical structure, what is so wrong about that?
The next step in the development and evolution of consciousness is not to become pure light or energy but to return to where we started, only to know the place for the first time, to simply be human and to live in awe of mystery.

Life in one great mystery and we are all in it together (in theory?).  That is one grand idea.
