How long has this been going on?
Why have steps not been taking to reverse the effects of human interference to prevent this?
In 1970, the first
Earth Day marked what was to be a new era of environmental consciousness. In 1982, Fritjof Capra published
his book, The Turning Point, making the assertion that a bottoming out was occurring and an opportunity for bringing
about a new age was available. Attempts were made to find a bright side to environmental devastation.
In 1992,
1500 scientists, including people acknowledged as the most brilliant people on Earth, signed a document entitled “Warning
To Humanity” and it was made clear that the current path of environmental destruction would lead to the end of life,
as we know it. This valiant effort remains virtually unknown while the latest cleaning products using ammonia
and chlorine are household names.
Where is the line drawn in definitions of air, water, earth and living environments? When does air
become a mix of atmospheric gases? At what point does water become sewage or a collection of chemicals,
and when is “earth” merely a mixture of minerals and waste? What does it take to bring about
these changes? Do the world’s oceans need to turn a dull gray for the massive pollution levels to
be really seen? Would the extinction of all the whales on the planet be enough to warrant massive change
and heightened awareness about what is actually going on?
When did life appear upon the Earth, and what was it like just before the first
living things?
Chemical processes
and animated interactions existed prior to the first things now known as life forms. An Amoeba, for example,
though still very much unexplained by science, moves, consumes nutrients, and reproduces fitting the definitions of a living
organism. A mere collection of animated chemicals that does not do these things is not considered alive.
And, living things require a very specific environment and ecosystem in which to thrive and reproduce. As the chemistry
of the planet changes so does the system in which things live. Toxins, pollutants, radiation, other poisons introduced
into a living system initiate changes that do not allow for life to continue. More and more life is disappearing and
the overall system itself is different day by day.
In terms of the Gaia Hypothesis, the overall environment of Earth no longer
behaves as a single, natural living organism.
ONE
NATION UNDER WATER...
At first glance, one might assume that this is a Global Warming reference, or perhaps getting at conspiracy theories about
Texas billionaires and Middle Eastern oil kings plotting to raise the levels of the planets seas to raise water tables ten
to twenty feet making many dry and arid regions more lush and wet in the next hundred years, but in this case I am getting
at the nature of human relationship to our most needed bodily necessities and the fact that we are made up of about 90% water.
It would be silly in this day and age to suggest
that people should worship water much the way past civilizations had Sun Gods, but the fact is that if we do not begin to
treat this element with more respect and care, the poisoning of the planets water will eventually make it very difficult of
impossible for humanity to survive.
GLOBAL ABORTION
Primarily the reason this site is dealing
with The Big Bang as the dangerous idea rather than referring to religion alone deals with the fact that science is considered
to be the field of concrete and provable facts. Generally everyone, including many of the most devout religious
figures or believers, refers to religious matters in terms of belief, faith, devotion, and acceptance of mythical ideas
as opposed to god, spirit, ghosts, or heavenly realms as being scientific facts or realities like rocks and trees.
Science has become influenced by the religious beliefs
of scientists and the so-called evidence or proof of popular genesis theory is chosen based upon these influences more than
through open search for new and revolutionary ways of explaining observed phenonmenon. People can live without religion
but will perish without water even though it is a popular belief that the person continues even after death. A university
professor of mine (getting again at the nature of education related to myth) actually said that, if the room was sealed and
the Oxygen pumped out completely, she would continue to stand right where she was unharmed, in a spiritual sense. Thinking
in terms as though the death of the body did not really mean her own death relates to thinking in terms that we humans do
not really need our Earthly ecosystems, clean water and air, and healthy food, etc. It is a gross disconnection from
the truth of the matter that we are made of mostly water and we will not exist without it, physically or spiritually.
So long as those who believe they are extraterrestrial
in nature do not promote the descruction of that which the rest of us Earthlings need to survive, then these beliefs do not
do much harm. But, when people such as Reagan claimed that "we do not need to worry about toxic pollution
or nuclear waste because the good lord is going to come this generation or next to take us to a better place", well,
then we've got serious problems amounting to a Global Abortion of future generations.
